Things are hotting up in the global tournament to find the ultimate Halo 2 champion as 22 out of the 24 regions on XBOX LIVE have already announced their winners of the regional contests and are soon to be advanced to the championship round. The US and Japan are still in the process of running their regional competitions and the winners are set to be announced at the end of May. All finalists will be playing entirely online via XBOX LIVE as they vie for the coveted title of the first ever Halo 2 global champion.

The championship rounds will be played on June 10th in double elimination rounds with the 24 competitors being put into four groups of six players and the top three in each group will move on to play in the next round whereas the bottom three in each group will play in elimination rounds. Each round is ten minutes long and once a player loses twice they are booted from the competition. The final matches are to be played on the new Halo 2 “Warlock” map and the local start times for each match will be based on Greenwich Mean Time.

As mentioned previously, Japan and the US are yet to announce their regional winners but once all have been discovered, the real work starts as they face each other in the Halo 2 global championship finals, each competing for the crown of Halo 2 World Champion who will be set to receive a 50′ Samsung Flat Screen DLP HDTV, a Samsung HighDef DVD Player, a personalized Xbox Live Halo 2 Worldwide Champion Trophy featuring a 24 karat gold Halo 2 game disc, and $1,500 in cash as well as the regional prize package for their region which varies from location to location.
