Hackers and modders beware: Bungie are on to you and are not happy bunnies at all. Too often has a player logged onto XBOX LIVE to play a few matches only to encounter someone who appears to be beyond superhuman – they can leap over objects too high for any other regular player, appear invisible or even move objects through solid walls. These people are those who use cheats to increase their stats at the expense of those playing through the game legitimately and Bungie are planning to crack down on this sort of behaviour with the release of their latest update.
People have already been banned in the past for cheating and hacking but it still continues so stronger measures are being taken to both deter and prevent such activity online in the future. The new update from Bungie, its fourth since Halo 2 was released, will be focused on identifying illegal hacks, mods, cheats and other such nefarious behaviour with the penalty for those caught using such things in order to boost themselves being a permanent ban from playing Halo 2 online. The update will also fix other glitches in the game which have been exploited in the past.
Think you can avoid this update? Nice try – the update is required for all who want to continue playing online so if you are one of those who likes to mod and hack, then Bungie have a little advice for you: “It ruins the experience for legitimate players, and is almost universally used to cheat. If you want to play modded content with your friends, do it on System Link. If you log in to Live, you’re banned. You’ve been warned.”
Indeed you have – but for those of you who do play fairly, this will be welcome news as the battlefield becomes somewhat evened out at last once this update is applied to your game. Unless you are really, really bad at the game and then it’s just a case of being rather crap as opposed to everyone else around you cheating. But you can still yell that people are cheating anyway to make you feel better. I know I do…
